Two Singaporeans Killed In Car Crash in Australia
Sad news in today’s papers: van overturned in Victoria and two Singaporeans have died. They were part of a group of 6 on a self-drive tour to the Grampians. According to the manager of tourism services at Warrnambool City Council, the road they used was seldom used by tourists because it is lonely, small and winding.
My condolences to the victims and family. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for the survivors.
Travel is #7
Travel related complaints was the 7th on the Top 10 Most Number of Complaints to the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) last year. Who was number 1? Timeshare.
This ranking is not very useful because it doesn’t show the volume of transactions. How many people bought Timeshare? I’m sure lots more people bought Electrical and Electronics, which was at #5. So for Travel, which had 1062 complaints, was that number OK?
Cyclist On Tour Has Bike Stolen In Singapore
This news appeared in the Straits Times today.
English cyclist Greg Browning is touring on his bicycle from London to Sydney. His bike has been through the deserts of Uzbekistan and the mountains of Sichuan. But when he reached Singapore, it was stolen in broad daylight on Orchard Road.
He said,”My first reaction was of disbelief. I’ve been in so many countries where people said I would get robbed, and then this happened in Singapore, which I was told was one of the safest places in the world.”
Hey mate, Singapore is still one of the safest places for anyone, but not for bicycles. I feel for you, I’ve lost quite a few bikes to thieves myself.
Asia’s Dirtiest Hotels
TripAdvisor recently posted their 2010 list for the world’s dirtiest hotels. Not a list you would want to get into. How did Singapore do? Surprise surprise! Singapore has 2 hotels on the Top 10 Dirtiest Hotels in Asia. You still think Singapore is a clean and green city?
On that note, just based on my personal observation, Singapore is looking worse on the clean country image. Compared with maybe 10 years ago, I see more litter around bus stops, parks and void decks. Is this the image we want to show to tourists?
Now, the next time a traveller answers: “It’s very clean” to the question of “What do you think of Singapore”, I’ll give him a wry smile and tell him that “You’ve not really seen Singapore yet.”
