Naughty Tiger Airways Bans Facebook Fans!

Tiger Airways has a Facebook fan page. Surprised? Just yesterday (12 Mar), they were deleting negative comments from their wall and banning the users who were trying to give them feedback.

I am not among those that were banned nor do I know them, but their actions just make my blood boil! Especially when the comments were in response to a wall post by Tiger: “Do you love us?”

Cheeky, and it worked in getting lots of responses, both negative and positive. The first comment they received was… (guess what?) negative! But Tiger not only ignored the negative comments, they deleted them and banned those users from posting again! Granted, they did not delete all the negative comments, but it is still wrong!

Aims Angelo noticed and commented “where did the first comment go to??”

Then I took a look at their Discussions tab. Many questions were asked by Tiger’s customers but none got a response. But this one did:

Marked as irrelevant! Fortunately, you can still click on “Show post” to see it:

Irrelevant? Judge for yourselves…

Now, where do the banned customers go? Form their own page! “What I hate about Tiger Airways” was born:

There’s also a group “Tiger Airways Sucks!”

Jetstar and AirAsia have their own Facebook page too. Like Tiger, AirAsia have their fair share of customer complaints and questions. But at least AirAsia responds to their customers:

If the comments are unreasonable, other Facebook users are smart enough to recognize that and may even help to defend the airline. Like this case here:

Do a search for news on Tiger Airways and you will find some articles about their now infamous customer service.

Tiger Airways probably started the Facebook page in July 2009 and has more than 10,000 fans now. Despite the many disgruntled customers, I believe Tiger will still continue to grow because of their low fares. However, they must not forget that the customers have many alternatives like Jetstar and AirAsia.

I have experienced excellent service from Tiger Aiways before, albeit that was a long time ago. Before they moved to the Budget Terminal. Certainly hope that they can improve on their customer service, starting with how they treat their fans in their Facebook page.

Is Bangkok Safe?

Tomorrow (13 March 2010) is the start of the one week school holidays in Singapore. Thailand is one of the top travel destinations for Singaporeans looking for a short vacation and Bangkok is a favourite shopping mecca. But this weekend also coincides with a mass (really massive) rally by red shirts in Bangkok. So is it safe to travel to Bangkok?

No one can say for sure. Bangkok is a big city and you’ll be safer if you avoid the rally areas. But definitely, there will be inconveniences with road closures. Tourists will also have to hope that there will not be any repeat of the shutdown of the airport. The red shirts have said that it is one of their options.

So, travel at your own risk but take care of yourselves. Paknam Web has produced a Google Map that will be updated live over the weekend of the expected Red Shirt Rally in Bangkok – 11th-14th March 2010. Use it to avoid the areas where potential violence can break out.

You can now book your Universal Studios Singapore (USS) tickets online at Resorts World at Sentosa’s website. Yes, the booking was open since yesterday morning. But the RWS server could not handle the load and kept crashing. There had been overwhelming demand from locals as well as overseas tourists.

Update 2011: Check for special discounts at Universal Studios Singapore ticket price promotion before you book! At certain times of the year, Universal Studios Singapore will offer special deals. In May 2011, you could get 20% off!

It looks much better this morning. The website looks fast and many people have successfully booked their USS tickets online.

The first 2 days 18 & 19 March are already sold out and tickets for the first weekend are also selling out fast. So if you cannot wait to be among the first to get into the USS theme park, I suggest you better book now to avoid disappointment!

As for what rides will be opened, there is still no confirmation. The official word is that 18 or 19 attractions will be ready, but some may be down temporarily for technical and creative adjustments. Signs on what rides are closed will be posted at the park’s entrance.

As for myself, I’m in no hurry to squeeze with the school holiday crowd and travellers. I’ll give USS some time to iron out the kinks before I try them out.

Book the USS tickets online here: http://www.rwsentosa.com/

Rosy 2010 For Singapore Travel Agents

The forecast: blue skies and sunny days for the travel industry in Singapore. Over the past week, there has been a spate of news that will bring cheer to many travel agencies in Singapore.

The latest, in the news today, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) will work with the integrated resorts (IR) to host four keynote events. These could attract more than 11,000 visitors to Singapore. The four events are PowerGen Asia 2010, UFI Congress 2010, the 15th Asia-Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition 2011 at Marina Bay Sands; and the inaugural Live! Singapore in Resorts World at Sentosa.

It is hoped that with these events, Singapore can expand the variety of her appeal to visitors. They will also have more incentives to extend their stay and thus contribute more to the travel industry.

In earlier news, STB launched a new tourism campaign. After 6 years of “Uniquely Singapore”, the campaign will be re-branded as YourSingapore. A key part of the new brand is the interactive website www.yoursingapore.com

The new website allows travellers to personalize their own Singapore itinerary, and promises to be in tune with today’s digital media and virtual communities, as well as consumer demands for personalized travel plans.

In related news, STB launched the $5 million iDigital Scheme to enable local tourism businesses to be digitally-ready and build capabilities in e-commerce. The business eligible for this scheme include hotels, attractions, tourism services and F & B. They could then be integrated with the new YourSingapore website.

After a record-breaking January, the Singapore Tourism Board’s forecasts for the tourism industry in 2010: an average of 12 million in visitor arrivals and S$17.5-S$18.5 billion in tourism receipts.

Things are certainly looking up for travel agents.

Universal Studios Singapore Opening Date Announced

Reported by Travel Agency Singapore news

It is official! The long awaited announcement of the official opening date of Universal Studios Singapore (USS). Just released today, the USS will open on March 18, 8.28am!

Resorts World at Sentosa looks really committed to choosing an auspicious date and time. Let’s see now, March 18 should sound like 生意发 meaning booming business and 8.28 is  发2发 meaning lucky/prosperous?

In choosing an auspicious date, RWS has missed out on more than half the school holidays that run from 13-21 March. This, no doubt, will disappoint many kids who will be the most excited with the opening.

Lots of people have been waiting for the Universal Studios to open in Singapore. Not only locals, but many tourists in the region too. This news will bring relief to many Singapore travel agents who had been waiting anxiously for the official opening. Without knowing the actual date, the travel agencies have not been able to sell packages to clients interested in visiting the Universal Studios.

I too have been eagerly waiting for Universal Studios’ opening. Can’t wait to get on all the rides!

Buyer beware! This is a soft opening. The soft opening period allows RWS to make technical and creative adjustments. Shopping and dining vouchers will be offered with every ticket purchase. Not all the rides will be available, and there’s no information yet on which rides will be ready. Hopefully, there will be 18 attractions operational.
