It’s still early July, but many weekend tickets for Universal Studios Singapore at Resorts World Sentosa are already sold out! These are the dates that are sold out as of today 9 July:
10 July (Sat), 11 July (Sun), 17 July (Sat), 24 July (Sat), 25 July (Sun), & 31 July (Sat).

That’s right! For the rest of July, you can forget about visiting USS at RWS during any weekend if you’ve not bought your tickets yet.

What? Such huge demand even when the star attraction Battlestar Galactica is still closed without any news of when it’s going to re-open! Absolutely amazing!

We know many of you will be disappointed, especially those who had plans to go USS. Fret not! Our team of travel experts have searched, Googled, begged, steal, and found… Tickets! Yes! There are still tickets available if you check with the Singapore travel agent.

You can’t book online from the RWS website because they’re sold out. But… some Singapore travel agencies still have tickets available (probably reserved for them). We just did a check on Asiatravel.com’s website, and found that you can still book tickets to USS on 24 July, one of those weekends that are “sold out”.

No need to thank us. We’re just happy to help tourists and Singaporeans alike. Good luck and happy holidays!

Good luck to the closed rollercoaster ride Battlestar Galactica too!

With the official grand opening of Marina Bay Sands (MBS) just over on 23 June 2010, the latest star attraction SkyPark opened on 24 June 2010.

2000 tickets were sold out on that day. Originally, only 1000 were planned but demand was overwhelming. Tickets are priced at S$20 for adults.

Locals & tourists were treated to spectacular views on the 57th floor. Most were impressed but some were disappointed that the 150-metre infinity pool, the world’s largest outdoor pool at that height, was not open to the public. That is exclusively for hotel guests only. Hotel room rates start from more than US$200.

This new rooftop hangout boasts a variety of restaurants and bars for a perfect chill-out on top of the world, well, at least Singapore. And we’ll certainly hope it’s cool up there. Nights in Singapore can become unbearably warm.

The Public Observation Deck will be open daily from 10am to 10pm.

Low-cost carrier Jetstar is planning to start long-haul flights from Singapore to Australia, North Asia and Europe! Exciting news indeed for all travellers!

The first flights are expected at the end of this year 2010 from Singapore’s Changi Airport.

IATA figures say the Asian market is now the largest in the world. Jetstar plans to tap onto this huge growing market and aims to be an Asian success.

How cheap can you expect the airfares to be? A Jetstar spokesman said that the company will try to offer fares that are 30% lower.

Travel Agency Singapore shall be eagerly waiting for further news of these long-haul flights.

Singapore: At the auspicious time of 3.18pm on 27 April 2010, Singapore’s second integrated resort opened to the public. After much delays, this is definitely good news for many people, including Singapore travel agents.

Marina Bay Sands cost US$5.5 billion to build and is the world’s second most expensive casino. Early reviews have been mostly positive, with many impressed by the IR’s design.

The second IR is differentiating itself from the Resorts World Sentosa by banking on the conference and exhibitions or MICE sector to bring in the revenue.

This is only the first phase of the opening. Phase two, which includes the opening of more retail stores, the rest of its hotels and iconic rooftop SkyPark, will take place on June 23.

Parking at MBS is expensive: it starts at $8 an hour. But if you have money to spend on gambling, this amount should be peanuts to you.

If you want to go there by MRT, nearest stops are the Marina Bay station or the Promenade Station. Cross The Helix bridge and you’re at the IR.

By bus, you can take the re-routed 97, 106 and 133.

Good luck!

Earlier this week, most would have heard the news about a Mrs Robinson in Singapore offering to put up a mother and son from Britain stranded at Changi Airport. Due to flight cancellations from the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, these travellers had been staying at the Airport for four days. With the Food and Hotel Asia that is happening in Singapore, most of the hotels are full.

Now, since this week’s Wednesday, Changi Airport has put up a webpage for anyone in Singapore who wants to offer accommodation for these stranded travellers. This was set up after many offers of help on Changi Airport’s Facebook page. The project is called Open Homes.

While there is presently no urgent need for additional accommodation as many flights have resumed, and the remaining passengers have been accommodated at hotels, the situation nonetheless remains dynamic and disruptions may recur.

In view of this, we are compiling offers of accommodation from members of the public…

So, if you’d like to help and like to register your home, head on to Open Homes.
