Marina Bay Sands Opens

Singapore: At the auspicious time of 3.18pm on 27 April 2010, Singapore’s second integrated resort opened to the public. After much delays, this is definitely good news for many people, including Singapore travel agents.

Marina Bay Sands cost US$5.5 billion to build and is the world’s second most expensive casino. Early reviews have been mostly positive, with many impressed by the IR’s design.

The second IR is differentiating itself from the Resorts World Sentosa by banking on the conference and exhibitions or MICE sector to bring in the revenue.

This is only the first phase of the opening. Phase two, which includes the opening of more retail stores, the rest of its hotels and iconic rooftop SkyPark, will take place on June 23.

Parking at MBS is expensive: it starts at $8 an hour. But if you have money to spend on gambling, this amount should be peanuts to you.

If you want to go there by MRT, nearest stops are the Marina Bay station or the Promenade Station. Cross The Helix bridge and you’re at the IR.

By bus, you can take the re-routed 97, 106 and 133.

Good luck!

Singapore Casino Opens On Chinese New Year

Finally, we have a date for the opening of Singapore’s first casino! Resorts World Sentosa casino will open on 14 February 2010 12.18pm. This is a very auspicious hour. Woot! Or should I say: Huat ah!

It will be a soft opening with a private ceremony. The Universal Studios theme park is not ready to open yet. It is scheduled to open next month. But visitors will still be able to get a preview of the theme park in the evenings. For a ticket price of $10, visitors get to be among the first to walk about the park. There won’t be any rides or shows running though. The tickets are rebated by a same—value dining voucher. You can go to the box office at the Universal Studios Singapore front gate to purchase tickets for another day, as there will be no same—day ticket sales available.

Will you be making a trip to the casino to try your luck?

I guess by opening on the first day of the Chinese New Year, the casino is effectively “born” in the year of the tiger. So if the casino is the tiger, what are you?
